Moodle Plugins Review 1 – the Lightbox Gallery
For a while now I’ve been meaning to put together a series of videos on Moodle which aren’t anywhere else. Sure, there are already quite a few doing the rounds on YouTube and MoodleTutorials, but I still felt like I wanted to do something more, so I’ve decided to put together a series of videos on some of the common plugins that can be used in conjunction with core Moodle.
There are several hundred plugins available for Moodle that extend its functionality in all sorts of ways. Some integrate with other systems, some add new functionality, some improve on the functionality that is already there. I’ll focus on some of the more common ones to start with, and then move on to some of the more experimental ones. These aren’t going to be high-quality videos, mainly because I don’t have the time to put together Moodleman-quality presentations, instead I’ll try and focus on getting them out regularly and hopefully let them improve as time goes by.
So on to the first video in the series – the Lightbox Gallery.
The Lightbox Gallery extends what Moodle can already provide in the way of an image gallery (via, for example, a well structured Database Activity) by providing a far more visually appealing way of presenting images, as well as (in the latest version) allowing students to upload their own images. Enjoy.
Thanks! A great summary of how to use the lightbox gallery. I like the wrap up with the positives and negatives, and the demonstration of how to use it.

Thnaks for the feedback – this one was a bit of a test to see how it would turn out and if anyone would watch it! I’ll do some more soon
Mark.
Thanks very much Mark! Very useful video. I work with a gropu of teachers who help colleagues learn how to use Moodle and we’ll certainly be showing teachers your videos – looking forward to the next ones!

Glad it was useful Barbara – hopefully I’ll get some time to do more in the near future.
