Throughout my career I have been involved in the education and technology industries. Starting off working as a mathematics tutor while attempting my (still incomplete) PhD in telecommunications research at the University of Adelaide I realised that the life of a mathematician wasn’t for me, but that the education sector as a whole aligned with my values and skills. After ten years working in a range of government education roles supporting primarily corporate administrative systems I made a career change to work as a trainer for ASC Training where I started to delve deeper into open source learning technologies such as Moodle. My next move was to NetSpot, Australia’s largest Moodle Partner, working initially as a Moodle trainer before leading the expansion of NetSpot’s consulting services. After taking on a role on the NetSpot Executive team as Director, Consulting at NetSpot in 2011, I played a significant change management role during the acquisition of the company by Blackboard Inc, I took on senior roles in both Consulting and Client Services functions, leading a diverse team throughout Australia providing services to a variety of educational clients. I was tempted away from the private sector to once again return to higher education in 2015, when I accepted the position of Director, Flinders Connect within Flinders University, leading the creation of a centralised student services function within the university.
